Roberta J. (Mertz) Clarke, 72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on the morning of December 9th. She was born in Flint, MI; raised in Hampden, MA and resided in Springfield, MA for over 50 years. Roberta was predeceased by her parents Jack and Olive (Illig) Mertz. She was a graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School; worked as a “candy striper” at Ludlow Hospital; was a sales clerk and bartended at V.F.W. Post 9397 in Hampden, MA where she was also a member of the Ladies’ Auxillary.
Roberta was passionate and showed ultimate devotion to those she loved. She is survived by her sister Gloria Robbins of Monson, MA; her daughter Tammy L. Clarke and her fiancée Dawn Asselin of Russell, MA and her son Thomas Clarke and his fiancée Alexandria Fiorentino of Indian Orchard. She leaves behind her grandchildren Nicole Clarke, Cameron Clarke and Marissa Fiorentino. Roberta shared her life with four “fur babies”, Mertzie, Sparky, Mindy Lou and Shadow, who predeceased her and one Misty Blu “Mrs Blu” who was faithfully by her side until the end.
All services are private. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery Hampden, MA. Donations in Roberta’s memory may be made to Villalobos Rescue Center, P.O. Box 39, Napoleanville, LA 70390. Roberta loved watching the show “Pitbulls and Parolees”. R.I.P Mama, the G.O.A.T! oxox.
