Obituary

Richard A. Fijal, 79, of Ludlow, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Son of the late Andrew and Genevieve (Robak) Fijal, he was born in Ludlow on May 2, 1945. A graduate of Ludlow High School, Richard worked as a glazer at Sam’s Glass Works for 40 years. He loved wood working and building furniture. Along with his wife and friends, he enjoyed traveling on cruises to many spots around the world. He was a former member of the Ludlow Lions Club.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Laraine (Silva) Fijal of Ludlow, sons Brian Fijal (Lisa) and Christopher Fijal; his siblings Barbara Cannon; Mary Beaudoin (David); Cynthia Fonseca (Frank) and John Fijal (Jill). He also leaves his granddaughters Sydney Scott (Frankie) and Morgan Fijal as well as his brother and sister-in-law Geroge and Myra Robitaille. Richard also leaves behind a large family of nieces, nephews and close friends.

Funeral services for Richard will be Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 9:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Winsor St, Ludlow, MA. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Friday, January 17, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org or the Wounded Warrior Project https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the Fijal's. They were one of our neighbors. We used to babysit Brian and Christopher. My sister was friends with Cinthia and my brothers were friends with John. Nice family.
