Mitchell I. Kupiec, 86, of Ludlow, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022. Son of the late Louis and Bertha (Gmyr) Kupiec, he was born in Springfield on January 23, 1936. A lifelong Ludlow resident, he attended Immaculate Conception School and Ludlow High School. Mitch worked for many years as a machine operator for Millbrand and Chatfield Paper companies in Springfield. After retiring he went on to manage and bartend at the Polish American Citizens’ Club in Ludlow. In addition, he was a member of Christ the King Church’s Men’s Guild and the Ware River Club. In his younger days he played semi-pro baseball and coached for Christ the King youth baseball teams in the 1970’s and 80’. He played adult softball with his 3 sons until he was in his 50’s and for the Western Mass Relics over 55 league until he was 80. A big fan of Polka music, he hosted the “New Polka” show on STCC radio for over 30 years with his friend Fred Brozek. He was an avid pitch player in many leagues with h is friend Chick. Mitch was a huge Red Sox fan, watching every game, questioning each managerial move. In his final days, he still wanted to know what the Sox did at the trade deadline. He enjoyed Polka weekend trips, casino trips and Polka dancing with his wife Anita.
Mitch is survived by 3 sons Michael Kupiec (Darlene) of Springfield, Edward Kupiec of Monson and Mitchell S. Kupiec of Ludlow. He also leaves his 7 beloved grandchildren Amanda, Nicholas, Gregory, Kristin, Stephanie, Nicholas and Alexis as well as her great-granddaughters Hannah, Haley and Harlowe. Sadly, he was predeceased by his wife Anita (Koczur) Kupiec in 2018 and his siblings John and Mary.
Visiting hours for Mitch will be Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 8:30-10:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Christ the King Church, Warsaw Ave, Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Springfield, MA.
