Michael R. Wells, 57, of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026. A graduate of Central High School in Springfield, Michael went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from American International College (AIC). He dedicated many years of his professional life to serving as a probation officer within the Hampden County Court system.
A true Boston sports enthusiast, Michael’s passion for athletics began at an early age. Throughout his youth, he participated in sports through Van Horn and Greater Springfield and played hockey for the Junior Indians. His love of sports continued into fatherhood, where he proudly coached his sons, Nolan and Logan, in both baseball and soccer. For Michael, coaching was about far more than the game. It was an opportunity to spend time with his children, share his knowledge, and create memories that would last a lifetime.
An avid coffee lover, Michael believed there was no better way to start the day than with a fresh cup of coffee, bright and early. He cherished cozy mornings at home, surrounded by his mother and children, laughter, and smiles. A natural jokester with an unforgettable sense of humor, Michael never missed an opportunity to make a joke at someone else’s expense or reminisce about a memory from years gone by. You always knew a good story was coming when he began laughing uncontrollably before he could even finish telling it. His infectious laughter, playful spirit, and ability to find humor in just about anything brought endless joy to those around him.
Michael found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved taking long drives with the music turned up, taking in the beautiful landscapes of Western Massachusetts and beyond, wherever the road might lead. Equally cherished were the quieter moments spent relaxing at home, surrounded by his family and enjoying one of his favorite movies.
Among his most treasured traditions were the family’s annual trips to Old Lyme, Connecticut. A tradition that began with his grandmother and continued through generations, this weeklong oceanside escape was something Michael eagerly anticipated throughout the year. He could happily spend an entire day soaking up the sun on the beach, often to the amusement of his family, who never missed an opportunity to remind him about sunscreen and staying hydrated. These summers became a cherished part of his family’s story, filled with laughter, togetherness, and memories that will live on for generations.
Above all, Michael’s greatest pride and joy was his family. A devoted husband and loving father, he leaves behind a lifetime of memories, lessons, and unconditional love. More than a father, he was a best friend, mentor, and coach whose presence, encouragement, and guidance shaped the lives of those closest to him. His legacy will live on through the family he loved so deeply, the traditions he helped carry forward, and the countless moments they were fortunate enough to share.
Michael is survived by his sons, Nolan Wells and Logan Wells; his daughter, Morgyn Wells; his mother, Pamela (McCurry) Wells, former wife Lisa (Hubbard) Wells; and his brother, Ryan Wells, as well as many nieces and nephews and a great nephew.
