Marjorie Deborah "Debbie" (Coon) Moraes

Marjorie Deborah “Debbie” (Coon) Moraes, 81, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2019.  A lifelong Ludlow resident, she was the daughter of the late Walter Scott Coon Sr. and Marjorie (McDonough) Coon of Ludlow.  Debbie was a 1956 graduate of Cathedral High School and earned her BA from The Elms College in 1960. Debbie dedicated her career to helping those in need.  She was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 30 years, working for the Department of Children and Families and later for the Department of Public Welfare.

Debbie is predeceased by her husband of 55 years Manuel Moraes Jr. who passed away in 2017 and her brother Shaun Brady Coon.

She leaves behind her daughter, Deirdre Deborah Moraes of East Longmeadow, her brother and sister-in-law Walter and Joan Coon of Centerville, MA, and her sisters-in-law Beverly Coon of Longmeadow, Alice Galarneau of Chicopee and Mary Stevens of Springfield. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.

Funeral services celebrating Debbie’s life will be held held Monday, December 16, 2019 at 8:45 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth’s Parish, Hubbard St., Ludlow, MA.  Rites of Committal will be in Island Pond Cemetery, Center St., Ludlow, MA.  Visiting hours at the funeral home are Sunday, December 15, 2019  from 2:00-4:00 PM.
