Obituary

Maria (Lassek) Kwapisinski, 93, of Wilbraham, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022.  Daughter of the late Paul and Maria Lassek, she was born in Dortmund, Germany on November 8, 1928.  During World War II, her family was separated and lost contact with each other for many years.  Maria located her mother and older brother Paul before immigrating to the US.  As the years went by, she was able to locate 2 more siblings Otto and Caroline.  During her last visit to Germany in 1985 she found her last sibling Ruth.  Maria arrived in the US in 1956 with her husband Antoni and son Edmund.  They lived in Ludlow with their sponsors Frank and Lottie Nietupski.  The family later settled in Wilbraham.  Maria and Antoni enjoyed their lake house in Vermont for many years.  Maria loved to dance, and still tapped her feet to the rhythm in her later years when she could no longer dance.  Before losing her eyesight she was an avid knitter, never following a pattern.  She could simply look at a picture and create a sweater.

Maria leaves behind her devoted daughter Helena Kwapisinski (Christopher Boyer).  Sadly she was predeceased by her husband Antoni in 2011 and her son Edmund in 2000. Special thanks go to her caregiver of many years Sue Robles.

All services are private with burial at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Maria’s memory be made to Immaculate Conception Church Renovation Fund, 25 Parker St. Springfield, MA 01151.

Dear Helen, we are so deeply saddened on the passing of your sweet mom. We remember your mom so well!!! After searching on the internet, we came upon your mom’s obituary that my whole family missed at the time. We apologize for the late condolences. Since we had no extended family here in America, my siblings and myself included, always considered your family as our family through the years. Your mom and dad were like adopted parents to us all…we celebrated so many holidays together as one big happy family! Your mom will surely be missed by everyone that she touched through her lifetime. May you know that she was so loved by our family! May she rest in peace with your dad and brother.

I am sorry to hear this Helena. You knew she was fading and knowing that I hope lessened the blow of her passing. You were a doting daughter and did the best that anyone could for a loved one. You have been through a difficult time and shouldering a huge burden. I hope that things improve for you and the feeling of loss does not overpower the good. I did not know your Mom but I know she raised a fine daughter. Thinking of you Helkie.
