Maria Helena (Cabral) Fernandes, 95 of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2022. Born September 20, 1926 in Canedo do Chao, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joaquim Augusto and Casmira Cabral. Maria worked for several local companies retiring from Digital Equipment Co in 1992 . She was a devout communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Maria loved gardening, traveling and cooking, especially her favorite dish umas batatinhas quentes.
Maria is survived by her children Armand (Arminda), Elisio (Charlene), John (Dores), Joaquim (Helena) , Maria (Mahlon), Carlos (Rhonda) and Lee (Claudete). She leaves 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, several brothers and sisters in Portugal as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Adelino Fernandes in 1997. as well as two children in Portugal.
Visiting hours for Maria will be Friday, July 15, 2022 from 8:30-10:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 11:00 AM.
