Maria G. (Rodrigues) Rosa

Our precious mother, Maria Gestrudes Rodrigues Rosa, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3^rd 2023 surrounded by her loving children.

She was born in Cabecos, Evora de Alcobaca, Portugal in 1941 and devoted her life to her children, church and family.  Maria’s journey from Portugal to the USA in 1967, pregnant and with an 11-month-old child was a testament to her unwavering strength and dedication to her family.  During that journey, she welcomed her son Antonio into the world while on the flight followed by a third child 3 years later, Suzette.

Maria’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family.  She was a source of comfort, wisdom and endless love for all those fortunate enough to know her.  Her kindness, generosity and warm spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of crossing her path.  Her legacy of love and strength will forever be carried on by her beloved granddaughter, Brielle.

She was a devoted member of her church, Our Lady of Fatima in Ludlow MA as well as the Portuguese community.  She spent many a free time volunteering in various activities to support the church and community she loved.

Maria was preceded in death by her brother Manuel in 2022 and her parents Antonio and Gestrudes Rodrigues.  The family takes comfort in knowing that they will be reunited in eternal peace.

Maria leaves behind her husband, Antonio of Ludlow MA; sister-in-law Elvira Rodrigues of Ludlow MA; her brother Antonio Rodrigues and wife Graciete of Ludlow MA; daughter Grace and her husband Paul Plourd of Haddam Neck, CT; her son Tony of Ludlow MA; daughter Sue and her husband Steve Robinson of Monson MA; and her cherished granddaughter Brielle Robinson of South Portland Maine.  She also leaves her godchildren Victor Rodrigues and Michael Rodrigues, nephew Nelson Rodrigues and her nieces Dianne Rodrigues and Suzanne Baker.  Maria also leaves behind numerous brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s, nephews and nieces on her husband’s side as well.

Maria’s life was defined by a deep love for her family, community and homeland.  Her story is a testament to the power of love, strength and the lasting impact one person can have on the lives of many.  She will be remembered and cherished for her selflessness, her journey and the love she shared with all those who knew her.  Though dementia stole her memories, she will always be remembered for her smile and the warmth of her hugs by those who held her dear.  May her soul rest in eternal peace.

The family would like to thank the staff at the dementia unit at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing facility for their care and support.

Visiting hours for Maria will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 8:30-10:15 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church.  Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Berkshire Ave, Indian Orchard, MA.
