Manuel Moraes Jr.

Manuel “Putchy” Moraes Jr., 83, of Ludlow passed away Monday, March 6, 2017.  A lifelong Ludlow resident, he was the son of the late Manuel Sr. and Teresa (Mathias) Moraes.  After graduating from Ludlow High School, he earned his B.S. from AIC in 1956.  Manuel  was employed as the Manager of Cash/Investments for Baystate Medical Center for over 25 years.

An accomplished athlete, Putchy played basketball for the Ludlow Boys Club and soccer for the Gremio Lusitano Club. He was scouted for the U.S. soccer team.  His real passion was golf.  As a young boy he caddied at the Ludlow Country Club and played there as a member for most of his adult life, acquiring a number of winning tournament trophies over the years.

Family was everything to him and he leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years Marjorie Deborah (Coon) Moraes of Longmeadow, his daughter Deirdre Deborah Moraes of Boston, his sisters Alice Galarneau of Chicopee and Mary Stevens of Springfield; his sisters-in-law MaryElyn Moraes of East Longmeadow, Beverly Coon of Longmeadow and his brother and sister-in-law Walter and Joan Coon of Centerville, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Arthur “Peppy” Moraes and Armand “Trosky” Moraes.

Funeral services celebrating Manuel’s life will be held held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 9:45 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Elizabeth’s Parish, Hubbard St., Ludlow, MA.       Rites of Committal will be in Island Pond Cemetery, Center St., Ludlow, MA.  Visiting hours at the funeral home are Friday, March 11, 2017  from 500-7:00 PM.
