Joseph L. Andreis

LUDLOW – Joseph L. Andreis 67 of East St. Ludlow, Past National President of UNICO, and retired educator and past school vice- principal for the Town of Ludlow Public Schools, died Friday evening July 14, 2006. Born in Springfield, MA December 31, 1938 he was the son of the late Ignatius and Antonette (Mercolino) Andreis. Educated in Springfield schools, Joe was a graduate of Cathedral High School and American International College. He later received his Masters in Education at Temple University and his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. A communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Joe was a educator with over 30 years of dedicated service, he taught biology, chemistry, and anatomy & physiology at Ludlow High School, he was also active in many other schools groups including being a Senior Class Advisor, Assistant football coach, Hi-Y, and the stage band. He later served as Vice Principal of Ludlow High School. He also served the town as a member of the planning board, and as a Westover Golf Course Commissioner. He was actively involved in UNICO – having served in local chapters; he became President of UNICO National, and was named Springfield UNICO Man of the Year. In 1987 he was bestowed the honor and title of Cavaliere by the President of the Republic of Italy for his contributions to the Italian Community. Joe is survived by his wife Olivia A. (Shannon) Andreis. A son Joseph Andreis and his wife Teresa of Roswell, NM 2 daughters Maria Donovan and her husband James of Lyndhurst, NJ, and Christine Panetti and her husband Robert of Longmeadow, MA. Grandfather of Nicholas, Alyssa and Jacob Andreis, Campbell and Aidan Donovan, and Olivia and Robert Panetti. Brother of Joan Siciliano of Wilbraham, MA Barbara Anzalotti – Colby of Longmeadow, MA and Donna Berrouard of Wilbraham, MA Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
