John L. Szczepanek, 85, of Ludlow, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Born and raised in Indian Orchard/Ludlow MA, John was the son of the late John “Yonkie” Szczepanek and Kay St. Louis. John met the love of his life, Martha, in his hometown, and together they built a beautiful life over 67 years of marriage, raising their family and creating countless memories in Ludlow.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, John was affectionately known as “Pepa” to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews— a name that captured his playful spirit and the joy he brought to every gathering. He was a proud father to Cheryl Burgio (Marcello) and John A. Szczepanek (Sue), and a cherished grandfather to ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
John is survived by his brother David Sepanek and sister Carol Chenevert, and predeceased by his brother Larry Szczepanek.
A lifelong Elvis Presley fan, John embraced the nickname “The King,” and his Elvis impressions were legendary at family gatherings. His signature phrase — “Thank you… thank you very much…” — became part of the family’s vocabulary and will forever remind them of his humor and charm. John lived fully, loved fiercely, and appreciated every day he was given. He loved his family and friends.
“Thank you… thank you very much…”
