Irene C. (Saloio) Methe, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 2, 2017 surrounded by her family. Born in Ludlow on July 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Armelin and Luciana (Ribeiro) Saloio. Irene was kind and generous to everyone she encountered and she had an exceptional sense of humor. She was a loving member of the family; always there to support and lend a hand. She was an exceptional cook and seamstress and took joy in gathering her family together for meals. She was a communicant of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Ludlow. She spent most of her life in Ludlow and Belchertown before moving to Gill, MA where she lived with her daughter Janice and son-in-law Rick. Irene is survived by her 4 children Robert Methe and his wife Karen of Monson, MA, Carolyn Grazia and her husband John of Winsted, CT, Diane Geboskie of Cleveland, OK, and Janice Giverson and her husband Rick of Gill, MA. She is also survived by 5 brothers Jose, Manuel, Armelin, Arthur and Raymond Saloio and her sister Ida Santos – all of Ludlow, MA. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Ernest, brothers James and Carlos and her cherished sister-in-law, Irene. Irene also leaves her 10 beloved grandchildren Todd, Tracy, Lara, Heather, Anne, Megan, Rick Jr., Adam, Kaitlin and Kelsey; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Dear Methe Family, So sorry for your loss. I always looked forward to seeing Irene each Columbus Day weekend at Ernie's golf tourney. I was honored to have your mom and dad as my godparents. Many a fond memory from days of past. She was such a kind soul. I'll miss her smile. May your mother rest in peace.

The Gershowitz Family have many fond memories of this lovely sweet lady. Cruising w/her and Ernie to Bermuda in 1988 us celebrating our 25th Anniversary. What a lovely time we all had traveling w/Dole Travel that year. I graduated w/Irene's youngest brother Raymond as well and we all here send our condolences to u all there. I'm sure she's up there trying to win some money, as she loved the casino. thank u Irene for all the love, joy and friendship that u have given to us all. God Bless u and may u rest in peace dear. It's been a pleasure knowing u and all your family.
My life is better having know Mrs Methe. My family spent many holidays with her and she even was the judge of a stuffing cook-off one Thanksgiving. My love goes out to her whole family as she will be truly missed. Rest in peace Grammy! We love you!
Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
Funeral Services celebrating Irene’s life will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal will be in Island Pond Cemetery, Center St., Ludlow, MA.
