Obituary

In the light of God’s love, Hilda M. (Bousquet) Chenaille, 94, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 12, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  Daughter of the late Noe and Maryann (Casavant) Bousquet, she was born in Chicopee on March 29, 1928.  A longtime Ludlow resident, Hilda was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Parish and its Ladies of St. Anne.

Hilda’s life was built and lived on a foundation of love and truth. While raising her 7 children, she was known for her huge heart and many called her Mom or Memere. An amazing cook, baker and seamstress, Hilda epitomized organic, zero waste before it became popular, making everything from scratch. She always found time to pray, make family memories and care for others. She listened attentively and opened her home to all.  She taught her family to live life to its fullest, with gratitude for the small things in life, to persevere, nurture the little ones, savor memories and never put off pursuing a dream. Hilda displayed God’s love in its purest, most generous form!

Hilda is survived by her children Patricia Paulo of Ludlow, Raymond Contois of Belchertown, Theresa Gladkowski of Ludlow, Richard Contois of Springfield, Celeste Contois of Leominster and their partners.  She also leaves 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces, nephews and extended family whom she loved dearly.  She was predeceased by her husbands Andrew Contois and  Roland Chenaille, her daughter Annette Suleski, her son Robert Contois and her sister Diane Laframboise.

For those of us left behind, we know unequivocally that she is among the Angels, her loved ones and will continue to bring us light, love and wisdom.

Our sincere thanks to family, extended family, CNA’s, nurses and all who touched her daily life to support her during the past year. Your care, love, interaction, gospel singing and sharing made a difference in her life and we are forever grateful.

So many incredible memories I cherish with a family I love dearly. Memere was one special lady and she loved all. Seeing her always brought a smile, love and so much more. Grateful for every moment we shared. She will be missed greatly. Memere played cards with me a few weeks ago.. that was truly a special game and we both knew that. Rest easy and hug everyone for me in Heaven we’ve missed. Love you always and forever. Thank you for being such a kind loving grandmother, a great and even a great great one as well.

Hilda, I will always remember “Mama C” as a lovely, kind and funny woman. Her phone calls and birthday messages to us were always sweet and delightful. She was a treasure to her family and to all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
