Gilbert P. Grenon, 62, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved. Son of the late Philip and Florence (Scheip) Grenon, he was born in Ludlow on March 24, 1964. Gil was a graduate of Putnam Vocational High and worked in Research and Development at American Saw for 37 years, retiring in 2023. Gil was an avid golfer and competed in the Western Mass Pistol League for several years. Gil loved being outdoors, cheering on the Bruins, Red Sox and Seattle Seahawks.
Gil and Linda were blessed to have traveled extensively with their travel companions Roger and Wendy Coache. They traveled all through the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and most recently to Germany, England, Ireland and Scotland.
He loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could put a smile on the face of everyone around him. He was always willing to help anyone in need no matter what it happened to be.
Gil is survived by his wife of 36 years Linda (Fales) Grenon; his brother Stephen Grenon (Linda) and his sisters Sue Bosely and Michelle Grenon. He also leaves his father-in-law Richard Fales and his sisters-in-law Debra Charpentier (Roger) and Karen Krawszynski. He will be especially missed by his beloved nieces and nephews Nicholas Fales (Christina), Natasha Harding, Edward Harding, Christopher Harding, Stephanie Grenon, Matthew Charpentier, Nicole Peters, Christina Charpentier, Kelly O’Connell, Amanda Giordano, Jamie O’Connell as well as his great nieces and nephews Torryn, Caelin, Emrys, Deven, Daniel, Sophia and Aries. He also leaves numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He leaves his long-time friends Chuck Brown and Dale Butterfoss and a large circle of friends and colleaugues that he considered family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law Ruth Fales and his niece Dalin O’Connell.
Gil’s family would like to thank the staff at Hampden Post Acute and Baystate Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Gil and his family during this difficult time.
Gil was a very casual, down-to-earth individual. He has requested that you dress casual and wear your favorite golf or sport team shirt.
Visiting hours for Gilbert will be Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 9:00AM-Noon at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA. In lieu of flowers, Gil’s family ask that donations may be made to the RD26 Foundation, 21 Craigwood Terrace, Wilbraham, MA 01095 or www.rd26.org.
