Fernando A. Joao, 86, of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Antonio and Elisa (Rainha) Joao, he was born in Caris De Evora Alcobaca, Portugal on August 30, 1932 and emigrated to the USA in 1960. He retired from the former Package Machinery Co. where he worked as a stock clerk for many years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ludlow.
Fernando is survived by his wife of 63 years Ana (Martins) Joao of Indian Orchard; 3 daughters Maria Salvador and her husband Bino and Susana Cardaropoli and her husband Scott, both of Ludlow and Irene Stromberg and her husband (Wayne) of Springfield; 6 grandchildren “TJ”, Kristine, Peter, Michael, Christopher and Timothy; 3 great-grandchildren Leslie, Kaleb and Kigan, He also leaves his siblings Antonio, Dino, Luis and Jack Joao, Maria Vitorino, Connie Filipe and Trinda Agostinho, brothers/sisters –in-law, many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Sadly, he was predeceased by his brothers Jose, Manuel, Francisco, Arnoldo and sister Sr. Elvira Rainha.
Fernando’s family would like to thank Maria Alice and Trinity Hospice for their care and compassion.
Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Friday, November 23, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
Funeral Services for Fernando will be Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 8:45 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Rites of Committal will be in Island Pond Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage St. Springfield, MA 01104.
