Edward J. Newman

Edward J. Newman 90 of East Longmeadow died Saturday November 2, 2013 at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke. Born in Springfield, MA September 10, 1923 son of the late James E. and Gertrude (Jahn) Newman. Educated in local schools, he proudly served his country during World War II as a Private First Class in the United States Army. He served with the 3209 Small Arms Company. He worked as an auto body repairman having worked for Central Chevrolet and Mutual Ford. He was a member of the East Longmeadow Lodge of Masons, A member and past commander of the Hampden VFW, The East Longmeadow American Legion. He was an avid outdoors man, and a member of the Springfield Sportsmen’s Club. He loved Hunting and fishing. In his younger days he was a baseball umpire and coach, and was a bowler. He was the widower of Lillian A. (Wiesel) Newman. He is survived by his son Jeffrey Newman and his wife Kathleen of Ludlow, a daughter Sandi Franceschini and her husband Paul of Westfield, MA Grandfather of Justin Newman and his wife Lindsay, and great grandfather of Mia Rose Newman. brother of Robert Newman of Holyoke, MA . Also survived by extended family members and friends. The entire Newman family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Soldier’s home, their dedication and compassion will never be forgotten.
