Carol L. (Moccio) Matott, 85, formerly of Ludlow, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026. Daughter of the late Anthony and Eva (Beaulieu) Moccio, she was born in Ludlow on November 19, 1940. Carol graduated from Ludlow High School and was a popular and much-loved waitress and hostess at the Villa Rose and former Water’s Edge restaurants. She was a longtime member of St Elizabeth’s Parish.
Carol is survived by her children Wayne Gates (Thomas Potorski) and Wendy Lenois (Thomas Sadowski Jr.) and her daughter-in law Terri Gates. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Anthony Gates, Nicole Hodgson (Nathaniel), Hayden Dupuis and Evan Sadowski and her 3 great-grandchildren Wyatt, Lucas and Nathaniel Jr. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John “Jack” Matott in 1991, her son Wesley Gates earlier this year and her sister Dorothy Belisle in 2014.
Visiting for Carol will be Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from 8:30-10:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall Street, Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Elizabeth’s Parish, 181 Hubbard St. Ludlow, MA. My dearest friend, I will so miss all the wonderful memories we have made. In our younger years we had a little bit of mischief in us, and we will reminisce about that again when we meet. Can’t tell you how much I loved you and respected you as a friend. We were each other’s confident and I thank you for that. Now that you are with Jack and Wesley the mischief will continue in heaven. Rest in peace, my dear friend, and God has certainly received another angel. I love you so much. Be the butterfly or hummingbird amongst my flowers. XOXO
My sincerest sympathies to all of Carol's family. I first met Carol when my husband and I used to go to Adoration at St Francis church and she was always before us. The amazement I felt the day she was leaving the church and I saw her blow a kiss to Jesus. What a beautiful gesture. A couple of years ago, I had the privilege of meeting up with her again when she called me and asked if I could bring her Communion on Sundays after Mass. I said absolutely. What a privilege that was. Whenever I visited, she was always upbeat even though she had been going thru so many health issues. She was a wonderful woman and I enjoyed her company so much. May God bless all of you abundantly.

One of the earliest memories I have of Aunt Carol would have to be when they lived right down the street from us on Bliss St. in Monson, Ma and I decided to skateboard down Reynolds Ave (across Main St.). Me only around the fearless age of 10 or so, and feeling twice as confident thinking I was Jill Monroe (Farrah Fawcett) of Charlie's Angels, started my skateboarding event from the top and not even half-way down, I went over a bump, lost control, wiped out, and landed teeth first on the pavement. Not a pretty picture, and it hurt too. I went to the closest place known and that was Aunt Carol, I was crying, bleeding, and a complete mess. She knew exactly what to do and how to make everything okay. I also have fond memories, later in life, of her trying to teach me how to knit. Needless to say; she eventually just said, "Oh Lisa, I will just make it for you?" LOL
