Ana (Martins) Joao, 84. of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born July 10, 1934 in Azambujeira Turquel, Alcobaca Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Gertrude (Lopes) Martins. She emigrated to the United States in 1960. Ana worked for many years at the former Service Rubber in Chicopee. She then opened her loving heart and home to provide child care for many area children. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ludlow.
Ana is survived by her 3 daughters: Maria Salvador and her husband Bino; Susana Cardaropoli and her husband Scott, both of Ludlow and Irene Stromberg and her husband Wayne of Springfield; 6 grandchildren “TJ”, Kristine, Peter, Michael, Christopher and Timothy; 3 great-grandchildren Leslie, Kaleb and Kigan. She also leaves her brother Hilario Martins and sister Gertrude Lopes as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Sadly she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Fernando Joao on November 18, 2018 as well as her siblings Antonio, Manuel, Joaquim, Maria, Laurinda and Luciana.

Funeral Services for Ana will be Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 8:45 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Rites of Committal will be in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Friday, February 8,2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage St. Springfield, MA
