Alphonse W. Lis (Herby), 91, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Pioneer Health and Rehabilitation in South Hadley. He was born on September 7, 1933 in Three Rivers, MA to John and Mary (Kozlik) Lis. He attended local schools and worked in his family’s business, the Lis Market and Café. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957, Alphonse was employed by Spaulding, Belchertown State School and the Monson Developmental Center. He was a communicant of Christ the King Church in Ludlow. A talented athlete, Alphonse played baseball and hockey in his youth, coached Little League teams and enjoyed playing golf. He loved the outdoors and could be seen walking around Ludlow in the vicinity of his home on Haviland Pond.
Alphonse was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings, Stanley, Henry, John, Frederick, Hedwig, Cecilia, Ann and Natalie. He is survived by his sister Helen Swiatlowski and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Pioneer Health and Rehabilitation for the compassionate care given to Alphonse in the last year.
Visiting hours for Alphonse will be Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 10:00-11:30 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon in Christ the King Church, 41 Warsaw Ave, Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal with Military Honors will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Fuller Road, Palmer, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alphonse’s memory may be made to Christ the King Church.
