Alphonse F. Pires, 91, of Ludlow, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Son of the late Ovidio and Maria (dos Dores Fonseca) Pires, he was born in Chicopee on February 22, 1929. Educated in local schools, Alphonse proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He went on to work as a machinist at American Bosch and Eastern Etching for many years. Alphonse (“Al”) was known for his true kindness as a father, as a devoted husband and he was a devout communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Parish in Ludlow.
Alphonse is survived by three sons Larry Pires (Barbara) of Chester; Anthony Pires (Eva) of Belchertown; Mark Pires (Marie), also of Chester; and his daughter Beatrice Roberts (David) of Ludlow; as well as two sisters Emma Grimes of Ludlow, MA, and Gloria Galis of Florida. He also leaves his 7 beloved grandchildren: Melissa Bourdeau (Jason); Tony Pires, Jr. (Wendy); Tammy Bruneau (Justin); Christina Shephard (Adam); Denise Dilley (Mitch); Mark Pires II (Katie) and Ryan Roberts, as well as 18 great-grandchildren. Sadly, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years Beatrice Pires in 2012 and by two dear siblings Joseph Pires (Doris) and Mary Lawrence (Tony).
Family and friends are invited to gather for Alphonse’s funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth’s Parish, Hubbard St., Ludlow, MA. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Masks, social distancing and all state gathering and capacity restrictions will be adhered to.
