Obituary

Walter J, Fijal Jr., 85, of Ludlow, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Son of the late Walter J. Fijal Sr. and Dominica (Panek) Fijal, he was born in Ludlow on July 20, 1939. Walter was a 1957 graduate of Ludlow High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He was a member of Teamsters Local 404, working as a driver for Williams Distributing for over 30 years retiring in 2002. Walter was a member of the Teamsters Local 404 Retiree Club and the Polish American Citizens Club in Ludlow. He was an antique car enthusiast and could fix “anything with a small engine”. He was a member of Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church in Ware. Walter was known as the “lawnmower man of Ludlow”.

Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years Jean (Saletnik) Fijal of Ludlow; his daughters Sherry Kerrigan of Summit, NJ, Kelly Cieplinski of Southwick, MA and Heidi Fijal (Charles Mateo) of Springfield. MA. He also leaves his 6 grandchildren Ernie Santiago, Avalon Mateo, Ava Cieplinski, Alexandra Cieplinski, Brady Kerrigan and Madden Kerrigan.

Visiting hours for Walter will be Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 4:00-6:30 PM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA 01056. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.

Jean and Walt used to come to our house in West Springfield on Sundays to go swimming and have a barbecue. We always had fun, my father and Walt got along really well. When we all move to Las Vegas, Jean and Walt came out to visit yearly. We always had good times
