Roger J. Douthwright, 76, of Ludlow, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 at home surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Springfield on June 29, 1948, he was a graduate of the former Springfield Technical High School and Peterson School of Engineering in Worcester. He worked as a stationary engineer for many years before retiring in 2010.
Roger was a jack of all trades and loved spending time in his garage doing all types of projects. He loved working on cars, go karts and anything that was a challenge to fix. He also wrote books on engine rebuilding. He spent many summers at Stafford watching the races and met many friends there. He had a gift of gab and would make friends with anyone. In his earlier years he was involved with hockey and organized many teams. His spirit was always much younger than his physical age, always a jokester, a bit mischievous and had an infectious laugh. He was kind, generous and helpful to everyone he cared about.
Roger is survived by his wife of 48 years Janina (Kras) Douthwright of Ludlow, his son Earl Douthwright of Chamblee. GA; his daughter Carrie Douthwright of Ludlow and his granddaughter Haylee Rodrigues. He also leaves many friends, especially his close friend and “brother” Charlie Aurnhammer.

What a terrible loss. Hearts are broken. Going to miss your jolly laugh and all the good times we had at the races together.
Great memories of riding with Roger and Earl to many hockey games. I can still hear Roger saying "we sucked him up" when we would pass another car and I still quote him to this day. Our condolences to the entire family and to Roger's friends.
So sorry to hear about Mr. Douthwright, one the greatest hockey guy I’ve been around. I will miss his passion and sense of humor. He will surely be missed
My good friend from our 'hot rod' days in the late 60's and early 70's. Lost track of You over the years but never forgot You with Your sly grin and crazy laugh. A loyal friend and all around great guy. I still remember Your saying of 'He has hit in the head' when we encountered anyone that was a little strange to us. Condolences to Roger's family and friends. You will be missed.
