I had the privilege of meeting Nellie on April 4th along with Eleanor Green and Stelle Hubach. There was a lot of reminiscing going on especially with Stelle. I heard a lot of wonderful stories from the past. I wish I could have met her back then. In fact we played a game at our last past queens party, the game Nellie always played. Entrance to the party was to bring a gift wrap of something, then we ran an auction. The highest bidder got the gift, just a little fundraiser for the past queen. Was a lot of fun, thank you Nellie

I met Nellie in 1976 when I went to work at a business in Ludlow, MA. I really enjoyed sitting next to her as we checked computer printouts. I was always so amazed by Nellie who, after work in the summer, drove to Hadley to work at the asparagus fields. Then, after my job ended, I was thrilled to discover that she and I both belonged to James W. Hannum Chapter #150 of the Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile #84, which we attended every month. That was 46 years ago. My late husband, Russell Gay, and I helped Nellie and her husband Ken Waterman build a garage next to their Ludlow home. My 2nd husband, Richard Tetreault and I both joined the Chicopee Chapter 1849, Order of the Moose, and met a man named Gary and his girlfriend Jean Hafner. I was so surprised to discover that Jean was Nellie's daughter. Life always manages so many surprises. So long Nellie.
Nellie was a cherished member of Union Church along with her husband Ken. She was a Deacon Emeritus and helped with the Holly Fair every year while Ken manned the kitchen to make the luncheon. Nellie sang alto in the choir years ago. She was such a sweet lady and we will miss her. If Judi would email her address to me, I would like to send a card from our members as is our custom. May God sustain you all with memories of happier times. You are in our prayers. With Deepest Sympathy, Rae Teed and the Board of Deacons. There will be one final Farewell Service at Union Church on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022 at 10:00A.M.
