Obituary

Mary Julia (Murray) Casella, 82, formerly of Ludlow, passed away December 25, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 7, 1936 in St. John’s NL, Canada to the late Gerard and Florence (Head) Buckle.

She was affectionately called Moo-Mary-Ma-Nana (Blueberry Banana when being silly). She loved the Lord and enjoyed many years in church choir. She raised her family in Ludlow, MA, worked at Mass Mutual, Liberty Mutual and Royal Crown insurance companies, then retiring to Myrtle Beach, SC.

She loved her family and took great joy in keeping up with everyone. She would put on big spreads where there was always plenty for those who happened to drop by. She was known for her Mary-isms of funny words and phrases. She had a love of whales, lighthouses and anything Newfie.

She is survived by her children Kevin Murray (Bonnie) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Steven Murray (Angie) and Ann Marie Gagnon, both of Springfield, MA, her daughter-in-law Paula Casella of West Springfield, MA; grandchildren Sarah, Greg, Jamie, Derek, Amanda and Laura; great-grandchildren Michaela, Ethan, Madison, Mason and Aria; her brothers Angus, Gerry, Wayne (Diane); her sisters Chris (George), Louise, Barb (Greg); sisters-in-law Jane Skinner, and Maxine as well as many nieces, nephews and large extended family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother David, infant sister Marion and her youngest son David (Murray) Casella.

Funeral services for Mary will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA. Visiting hours will precede the service from 10:00-11:00 AM. At Mary’s request, her ashes will be spread in the Atlantic Ocean so that they may touch the shores of all the places she lived and loved. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association, 2080 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary and her family whom she loved dearly. Tom and I will truly miss our visits with her as well as her trips to visit us at our summer home in New Hampshire. We wish we were close enough to be able to attend her service. Rest in peace my dear friend and former classmate.
