Obituary

Marie A. (Quinlan) Martin, 84, of Hubbard St. died Thursday, March 24, 2005 in Springfield. Born in Boston on September 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Michael & Margaret (Walsh) Quinlan. Marie lived briefly in Hartford, CT before moving to Springfield where she attended parochial schools. She was a 1938 graduate of Cathedral High School. In 1942 she married Lawrence R. Martin of Ludlow, and in 1947 they moved to that town where they raised their family of six children. Her husband passed away in 1969. She was employed by the Ludlow Public Schools as a cafeteria worker with 16 years of service, most of them at East Street School. A women of deep faith she was a member of the parish family of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and a member of it’s Ladies of Ste. Anne. Marie loved spending time with her children and family members. She also loved simple things like going out to eat and car rides. She enjoyed traveling and, in 1996, toured Ireland, the home of her ancestors. Marie will long be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and friendly personality. She will be sadly, missed by her family, sons James Martin of Ludlow, Richard Martin and his wife Karen of Ludlow and Michael Martin of Belchertown, her daughters Margaret Abeid and her husband Michael of Elk Grove, CA , Patricia Pereira of Ludlow, and Ann Marie Martin of Sacramento, CA. She also had a seventh child, Lawrence, who died in his infancy. Marie was the loving grandmother of 15. Her grandson David Pereira died in 2003. She was also the proud great-grandmother of 13. She also leaves her sister Marguerite Rita Belisle of South Hadley, MA. She was pre-deceased by a brother Francis Quinlan of Delaware. She was the sister in law of Roger and Janet Martin, and Theresa Burek, all of Ludlow. Marie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, her dear friend Sally Harrington of Ludlow, and other loving friends and care givers.

Service Schedule

Service Information

Marie’s funeral will be Tuesday March 29 at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home 64 Sewall St. Ludlow at 9 AM, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10 AM. Rites of committal will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
