Obituary

Marian L. (Eavey) LaRiviere, 94, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Paul and Libby (Whitmer) Eavey, she was born in Dayton, VA, on March 22, 1925, and raised in Hopewell and Prince George County, VA. She attended Hopewell public schools and was a 1943 graduate of Hopewell High School. A longtime Ludlow resident, she was a devout communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Parish and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She briefly worked part time in the offices of O’Connor Fuels.

While working as secretary to a colonel at Camp Lee, VA, during WWII, she met Alfred A. LaRiviere on her birthday at a USO dance. They wed six months later and were married for nearly 65 years, finding time to enjoy traveling and dancing together at every opportunity. A devoted wife, Marian lent administrative support and encouragement to her husband’s many activities, typing minutes of meetings and correspondence, and writing occasional letters to the editor of the Ludlow Register. Marian was also a loving mother to their seven children and created a warm, happy home.

Marian is survived by her 7 children, Karen Audette, Alfred LaRiviere Jr. (Pauline), and Denise Rourke (Stephen) all of Ludlow; Michele Hersh (Bryant) of Chicopee, Francis LaRiviere (Brenda) of Oxford, MA, Patrice Chadbourne (David) of Springfield, VA, and Monique LaRiviere (William Burke) of South Hadley. She also leaves her brother Wiley Eavey of Midlothian, VA; her sister Jacquelyn Stover of Chester, VA; her 19 beloved grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Alfred LaRiviere, in 2010, her brothers, Garland and Alfred Eavey, her sister, Geraldine Mifka, and her son-in-law, Roger Audette.

Prayers are with your family. Your mom was a classy lady and I always enjoyed my visits with her and your dad over the years.
