Maria (Rosa) Lucas

Maria (Rosa) Lucas, 90, of Ludlow, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025. Daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Pereira) Rosa, she was born in Portugal on October 11, 1934. Maria worked for many years at Spaulding Sporting Goods until she became the childcare provider for her beloved grandchildren. Maria was a spiritual woman who faithfully attended Mass with her husband. She loved hosting the holidays and listening to traditional Portuguese music. Her happiest times were spent in her kitchen cooking and baking for her family; everyone loved her fried dough!

Maria is survived by three sons Jose (Maureen), Antonio (Kimberly) and Manuel (Cynthia), all of Ludlow; her brother Manuel Rosa (Maria); her sisters Noemia Tereso and Natalina Pereira (Hilario) also of Ludlow. She also leaves her 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Fernando Lucas in 2021 and her brother Antonio Rosa in 2024.

Visiting hours for Maria will be Friday, September 12, 2025 from 9:00-10:30 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Christ the King Church, Warsaw Ave, Ludlow, MA. Burial will be in Island Pond Cemetery. Donations in Maria’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) at www.alzfdn.org.
