Maria Fernanda (Batista) Pires 64 of Ludlow passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday January 16, 2014. Born in Padornelos, Montalegre, Portugal March 20, 1949 daughter of Fernando and Maria (Vasques) Batista. She came to the United States of America in 1962, and was educated in local schools. She was a care giver to her parents, and grandchildren, and being with her family brought her great joy. She attended Our Lady of Fatima Church. She is survived by her loving husband John G. Pires, her cherished daughter Diane Pires Murphy and her husband Brian F. Murphy of Ludlow, her grandchildren, John Brian Pires Murphy and James Pires Murphy her parents Fernando and Maria Batista, a brother Augusto Batista and his wife Debbie of Ludlow, and a brother in law Joaquim Silva Pires and his wife Georgina and their children John Michael Pires and Sandra Pires of Wayland, MA. Also survived by extended family members and friends. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Maria’s name. Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 21, 2014 at 10:30 at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home 64 Sewall St. Ludlow followed a 12 Noon Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church with burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
