Marguerite Fay (Bacon) Decker, 93, of Ludlow passed away peacefully Thursday, April 14, 2016. Born August 23, 1922 in Palmer, MA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Sarah (Bush) Bacon. A longtime Ludlow resident, she was a 1942 graduate of Ludlow High School. She attended Park Edge Secretarial School; received her BA from AIC and her MA from Westfield State College, where she also received her library certification. .
Marguerite worked as an English teacher and Librarian at Chicopee Comprehensive High School, retiring in 1988. In 1968/1969 she was elected Senior Teacher of the Year. She was active in the AIC Springfield and national Alumni Chapters, serving as President and Trustee. She received the Associations prestigious Annual Alumni Award in 1980. She was an active member of several professional organizations including the Mass. Teachers Assoc, Mass Librarians Assoc, and the Chicopee Teachers Assoc. She was a charter member of the Edward Bellamy Assoc
Marguerites civic activities included work as a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield, a six year term on the Ludlow Arts Lottery Commission and the TRIAD committee at the Ludlow Senior Center. She also served as Vice President of the Ameraon Faculty Wives Club. She enjoyed membership in the Ludlow Garden Club, Present Day Club and Worthwhile Club of Ludlow. In retirement she persued her favorite pastime, reading, especially biographies. She also enjoyed travel throughout the US. and Europe.
Marguerite was a lifelong member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Ludlow.
She is survived by two sons Jeffrey Decker and his wife Jolynn (Pritchard) Decker of Winsted, CT and Roger Decker of Ludlow, MA. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Beverly Lee, Dorothy Field, Shirley Livi and her brothers Herbert and Fred Bacon.
A graveside service for Marguerite will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Four Corners Cemetery, Palmer, MA. A reception will follow at Tony and Penny’s Restaurant, Canterbury St, Ludlow, MA
