Joseph A. Verrier, 96, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2016 with his family by his side. Born October 1, 1919 in Montague, MA, he was the son of the late Amedee Verrier and Amanda Desrosier of Canada. Joseph proudly served his country as Private First Class in the 760th Engineers PS Company in the US Army during World War II. He fought in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He worked at the Springfield Armory until its closing, then at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Parish in Ludlow. He also served on the Board of Registrars and as Notary Public for the Town of Ludlow.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 70 years Rita (Nadeau) Verrier of Ludlow, MA; his daughter Deborah Lata and her husband Paul of Westfield and his grandson Nicolas Lata and his wife Keri of Westfield. Sadly he was predeceased by his son Ronald Verrier.
Family and friends may gather for Josephs funeral service on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA.
