Jose Martinez

Jose Martinez, 92, of Ludlow, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025. Born July 25, 1932 in Ourense, Spain, he was the son of the late Antonio DeCastro and Francisca deJesus Martins. His family returned to Portugal. After serving in the Portuguese army, he remained in Almada, Portugal and married. On March 12, 1970, they immigrated to the U.S. He worked at Spaulding Sporting Goods for many years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ludlow and a member of the Gremio Lusitano Club.

Jose was predeceased by his wife of 66 years Edite in August, 2024. He is survived by his daughters Maria Libbey and her husband Brian and Lisa Salvas and her husband Robert, all of Ludlow. He also leaves his 3 grandchildren Benjamin Libbey and his wife Sara; Michael Salvas and Elizabeth Salvas as well as his great-grandchildren Reed and Eloise. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings Rosa Rodrigues, Esperanca Magalhaes, Maria deJesus Castro and Antonio Martinez.

Visiting hours for Jose will be Monday, July 28, 2025 from 9:00-10:15AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St. Ludlow, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church.
