Jeffrey M. Chmura, 59, of Chicopee passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Son of the late John and Christine (Kokoszka) Chmura he was born in Springfield on January 20, 1962. A lifelong resident, he was educated in Chicopee Schools and attended Holyoke Community College. Jeffrey proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1980-1991 was part of the Gulf War during Operation Desert Storm in 1990. Like his father before him, he began his career with the Chicopee Police Department in 1986. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1991 and was assigned to the Traffic Bureau as the department’s court officer. Sgt. Chmura retired in 2015, serving as supervisor in the day shift uniform patrol division.
Jeffrey is survived by his wife Anita (Mulhern) Chmura and his son Christopher Chmura and his aunt Irene Kokoszka, all of Chicopee. He also leaves a brother John Chmura (Carla) of East Longmeadow; 4 sisters Debra Chmura of Chicopee, Susan Gazda (Paul) of Chicopee; Carol Chapdelaine (Joseph) of East Longmeadow and Karen St. Pierre (Paul) of Westfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.

So sorry to hear of Jeff’s passing. He was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. He was a team player and “mission hacker”. He diligently did his job as a loadmaster , never complaining about some of the awful circumstances we had to encounter. The 337th Airlift Squadron lost a good man when he left the unit.
