Jeanne A. (McDermott) Ryan, 95, of Ludlow, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022. Daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Sears) McDermott, she was born in Springfield on March 27, 1926.
She is survived by her children; James Ryan III (Gayle), Margaret Adams, Christine Day, Patricia Barbour (William), Thomas Ryan (Roxanne), Mary Cressman, Robert Ryan (Ann), and Francis Ryan. She truly loved her 16 grandchildren; Lisa and Michael Preston, Michael and Alyssa Ryan, Joshua and Zachary Adams, Owen and Kelton Day, Sean and Ethan Barbour, Shamus and Mindanao Ryan, Heather, Diane and Jimmy Cressman and Abigail Ryan. She had a special affection for her 9 great-grandchildren; Bethany, Madeline, Kayden, Ashlin, Jamison, Nathaniel, Marco, Adán, and Joey.
Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband James J. Ryan Jr. in 2014, her daughter Jo-Anne Ryan in 2016 and her brothers Jerome and Thomas McDermott and her sister Mary Smith.
Jeanne was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Elms College. She began her career as one of the few female engineer assistants at Pratt and Whitney, followed by a long career as a Mathematics teacher at Forest Park Jr. High, Springfield MA and Central Dauphin East Jr. High in Harrisburg, PA.
During her retirement she and Jimmy traveled around the world with friends and family enjoying a variety of food, culture, and geography. The highlight of these travels was a trip to Ireland that Jeanne single handedly organized for 34 immediate family members.
Jeanne’s life was filled with joy because of the many opportunities she provided for her family to gather. Vacations, holidays, and summer stays at Grammys were all part of what made life so special. Forever the grandmother, she attended weddings, showers, graduations, Baptisms, First Communions, and Confirmations in many locations.
Jeanne was young at heart, a life-long learner and an independent thinker. Guided by her faith, she saw the goodness in everyone. Her life was an example to all.
In her later years, she moved to Keystone Commons in Ludlow where she enjoyed a full and meaningful life. She continued her lifelong passion for playing card games with her many special new friends.
There are no words to express the family’s gratitude to the many people who touched Jeanne’s life. In particular, Susan Latannzi of Pioneer Valley Cardiology, who was a kind and compassionate healer in every sense of the word; Amy Creasia and Lynn Lafromboise at Keystone Commons, who opened her eyes to a world of creativity; and her PCA Ericka Rivera who cared for Jeanne as if she were her own grandmother. Thank you all!

In Memory of Tom's Mother--May you rest in peace Jeanne
Dear Family of Jean, I was fortunate to meet your Mom at the hair salon at Keystone. Her appt. was before mine. We often chatted about her days as a teacher in Spfld. I also taught there. She was a warm and loving lady and I was fortunate to have met her. I offer you my sincere condolences. Carol Hausamann
Jeanne, a very sweet Lady. She did not let any of her challenges get her down. She was always ready to go to bingo, scrabble, etc. here at Keystone. She was my neighbor and shared friendship and pickled beets with me. We enjoyed our conversations about the Harrisburg - York area of Penna.
We are so deeply sorry about the loss of your mom, grammie and great grammie. She was a wonderful Kind woman and will be deeply missed. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. With love and sympathy , Ann & Tom Colcord
