Jean M. (Banas) Erickson

Jean M. (Banas) Erickson, 89, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  Born August 30, 1930 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Kmiec) Banas.  A 1947 graduate of Ludlow High School, Jean worked for New England Telephone Co for many years. She was a devout communicant of Christ the King Church and a longtime member of the St. Anne’s Sodality.  Jean was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a soft spot for all God’s creatures and those that found their way to her door always received a treat.  Jean loved spending time with family and friends, spent many hours crocheting beautiful afghans and prayer shawls for loved ones and for her church, and for many years enjoyed playing Bingo several times a week with her lifelong pal Josie.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Bob on October 22, 2019.  She is survived by her son Michael Erickson (Kathy) of Sutton, MA; 4 daughters Andrea Erickson (Tony Smith) of Hudson; Roberta Curzio (Tony) of Longmeadow; Sandra Fidalgo (David) and Susan Strycharz both of Ludlow.  She also leaves his 9 grandchildren Amy Pafumi, Nathan and Garrett Fidalgo, Rachael, Andrew and Colin Erickson, Chad King, Anthony Curzio and Kyle Erickson as well as his 2 great-grandchildren Bryton and Skylar. Sadly she was also predeceased by a son Christopher Erickson and her sister Josephine Myette.

Visiting hours for Jean will be Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 9:00-10:15 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Christ the King Church.  Rites of Committal will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Jean’s family requests that memorial donations be made to Christ the King Church 41 Warsaw Ave, Ludlow, MA 01056 or a local animal shelter of one’s choice.
