James Jim Hastings

James Jim Hastings, 55, of 407 Chapin St., died Monday, January 17, 2005 after a long illness. Born in Ludlow, MA October 30, 1949, he was the son of the late Marion A. (Scott) & James Fluff Hastings, Sr. Jim was educated in Ludlow Public Schools and was a 1967 graduate of Ludlow High School. He served his country as a Lance Coporal in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. On May 5, 1973 he married the love of his life, Kathleen A. Trusz. Jim graduated from Holyoke Community College in 1975, and was appointed to the Ludlow Fire Department. He served the community as a firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1984. Jim also served his fellow firefighters as president of Local 1840, and was a member of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts. Jim and his family were avid sailors, and loved the seas. Many of Jim’s happiest hours were at the helm of their sailboat Reflections. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Kathleen A. (Trusz) Hastings; a daughter, Melanie C. Hastings of Ludlow; 2 sons, Ray Hastings of Newtonville, MA and Michael J. Hastings, a student at Norwich University in Northfield, VT. Jim also has a cherished grandson, Austin James Hastings; a sister, Connie J. Turgeon. He was the son-in-law of the late Walter G. & Helen T. (Ciemiega) Trusz. He is also survived by many aunts uncles cousins, and friends.
