James A. Etter, 88, of Springfield, MA and Naples, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2015. Son of the late Walter B. and Hazel (Snow) Etter, he was born April 22, 1926 in Everett, MA.
A member of the Greatest Generation, James proudly served the U.S. Navy on Iwo Jima as an Airman and became a Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force with 22 years of service. He earned a masters degree and taught History at Minnechaug Regional High School for over 20 years. He was a Mason and in the Shriners Legion of Honor.
James is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years Helen (Topham) Etter of Springfield; two sons Arthur Etter of Springfield and David Etter and his wife Wendie of Feeding Hills. He also leaves several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating James life will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal with Military Honors will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA
