Herbert Brumer, 88, of Ludlow, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026. Son of the late Max and Adeline (Weber) Brumer, he was born in Springfield on October 6, 1937. A graduate of the former Springfield Technical High School, Herbert went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He worked as a chemist for Heatbath Corporation for over 45 years, eventually becoming Chief Chemist and retiring in 2007. Herbert was an avid fan of the theater, making frequent trips to New York and London with his wife Lucie to see the latest musicals and plays or revivals of old favorites. He enjoyed summers, tending his tomatoes and hosting family clambakes.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Lucie (Laflamme) Brumer; his sons Mark Brumer, Allan Brumer and Kenneth Brumer (Kathleen Van Winkle); his brothers Gerald Brumer (Roberta) and Lawrence Brumer (Leslie). He also leaves his four beloved grandchildren Griffin, Elise, Alex and Lucie as well as his in-laws Morris Kalka, Paul Laflamme Sr. (Mary) and Andrea Laflamme and eleven nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Elaine Kalka and his brother-in-law Pierre Laflamme Sr.
Visiting hours for Herbert will be Monday, February 9, 2026 from 9:00-11:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA. A funeral home service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Chicopee, MA.
