Frederick F. Fred Aurnhammer 69 a long time Ludlow resident died Monday May 10 in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Holyoke June 25, 1940 he was son of the late William and Rosamond (Petrich) Aurnhammer. Educated in local schools Fred served in the National Guard Reserves. On June 12, 1965 he married the love of his life Carol E. Isyk and together shared 45 years of marriage. He was the Co-Owner operator of Dino and Fred’s Service Station and Towing Service, and later operated Fred’s Towing. He also worked as a groundskeeper for Ludlow Country Club and Mill Valley Golf Links in Belchertown. He was a member and past King Lion of Ludlow Lions Club. Although Fred enjoyed a round of golf, his real passion was auto racing. He was Crew Chief for the Ludlow Police Department Racing Team, and worked tirelessly to raise funds for Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund. He is survived by his wife Carol E. (Isyk) Aurnhammer, a son F. Scott Aurnhammer of Springfield, and a daughter Elizabeth Guthrie and her husband David of Longmeadow. Cherished grandfather of Allison, Nathan, and Nicholas, also survived by extended family members and friends. Sadly he was predeceased by a brother William.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be Friday May 14, 2010 with family and friends gathering at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home 64 Sewall St. Ludlow at 9:30 AM with the funeral procession leaving at 10:30 for Sacred Heart Church 395 Chestnut St. Springfield where Msgr. George Farland will offer an 11 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial. Rites of Committal will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
