Obituary

Evelyn G. LaVoice O’Brien passed away in the care and comfort of her home in Wilbraham on Thursday, April 19, 2012 surrounded by her children. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on May 24, 1925 to the late Joseph LaVoice and Julia Mary (Ouellette) LaVoice.

Mrs. O’Brien spent her childhood and young adult life in Springfield, a city that she loved. She was well versed in its history and enjoyed collecting historical memorabilia related to the city. In her later years she assisted her daughter with Bright Nights at Forest Park where she was affectionately known as Elf Emeritus. She was a champion roller skater in the 1940’s. She worked as the manager of The Bombay Shop in the early years of the Eastfield Mall. She moved with her family to Wilbraham in 1966. She was a charter member of the The Wilbraham Disabilities Commission on which she served for many years. But what she loved the most was being a mother.

Left to celebrate her life are her devoted children: Constance J. O’Brien and her husband Michael S. Ghazil, Cheryl E. O’Brien and her husband David A. Robinson, Cynthia R. O’Brien and her partner Sheryl L. Valentine, Shawn P. O’Brien and his dear friend Robert Cleveland, and William M. O’Brien and his wife Barbara A. O’Brien. Cherishing her memory are her brother George LaVoice, her beloved sister Jean Michalak, and her good neighbors Pat and Jack Shea and Joyce Barron.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles S. O’Brien, her brother Ralph W. (John) LaVoice, and her sister Eleanor (Molly) LaVoice.

Meeting her at the Rainbow Bridge is Ari, the dog of her heart.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 11 AM from the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home 64 Sewall St. Ludlow with graveside services following in East Cemetery in Wilbraham. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9-11 AM.

Connie, Your mom had an indomitable spirit. We at the Spirit of Springfield are saddened at her passing. She was an extraordinary human being. Her wealth of knowledge about so many things was uncanny especially Springfield. We know there will never be anyone to replace her enthusiasm for Bright Nights, her accounting expertise at the Pancake Breakfast, and her sheer joy at watching the July 4th fireworks. We will always miss our Elf Emeritus. Love, Judy Matt

My heart goes out to the family of Evelyn. She was a fantastic lady whom I enjoyed talking about the LaVoice family with. My mom, Veronica (Bonnie) Baker Decoteau was her 1st cousin & they will be together having fun in Heaven.. Again, my prayers are with the family & George.

I will miss her and her hellooooooooooo.Joyce Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven, where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy. Inspired by an Eskimo Legend.

Although we never met or even spoke, we spent many hours playing Words with Friends. Your word knowledge was often superior to mine and I relished the challenge, EGOB! So sad our games are over and I will always remember you, love to Connie and her family as such a sad time, Vanessa, England UK.

Masthay is a perfect explame of how fans often have an itchy trigger finger. No long into the season, Masthay's performance was being compared to Bryan's in Tampa Bay, and his numbers were actually not as good. People were questioning whether the right move was made in which punter they kept.Jump ahead to the rest of the season, and suddenly it's quite clear the coaches made the right choice. Masthay looks to be the long-term punter Green Bay has been desperately searching for, while Bryan was cut mid-season by the Bucs.
