Emelia (Costa) Garete, 101, formerly of Ludlow, MA passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2016. Born in Ludlow, MA, December 28, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Asscoa Rouke) Costa. A graduate of Ludlow High School, she was employed by the Ludlow Mills for many years. Emelia was a devout communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was an active member of the Ludlow Senior Center, the Portuguese-American Citizens Club and she was a longtime volunteer at the former Ludlow Hospital Gift Shop.
Emelia is survived by her son Dominick Garete of Ludlow; her daughter Celeste Bontempo of Toms River, NJ and her sister Alcina Bourcier of FL. She also leaves 5 grandsons, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Sadly, Emelia was predeceased by her husband Domingos Garete and her brothers Manuel, Fernando and Victor Costa.
Funeral Services for Emelia will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burialat 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Winsor St, Ludlow, MA. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Berkshire Ave, Springfield, MA.
