Obituary

Dorothy M. (Hunt) Rich, 83, of Ludlow passed away on March 26 peacefully at home in the loving and devoted care of her daughter Dana, her devoted and loving son-in-law Gilberto and her grandson Nicholas who was her very best friend and confidant. She was SO proud of her Nicholas. They had a very strong bond and made so many wonderful memories together. They watched Wheel of Fortune daily while eating dinner. They spent hours talking and would read books together. Their days and nights always started and ended together. Dorothy taught Nicholas to have compassion and empathy for everyone. She would always say that you never knew what someone was going through. She worked several customer service jobs to provide for her children. Her last job was at Dunkin Donuts, where she met and made many friends. She retired after 17 years of service. Dorothy was a former member of the Polish American Citizens’ Club in Ludlow where she volunteered for many fundraisers and made many friends including her dear friends Ricky Burkott and Shelly Henriques whom she loved very much.

When her children were young, all their friends from Carol St and the block on Hubbard St and Whitney Park lovingly called her “Ma Sady”. She loved that her children made lifelong friends and memories. She always told them to never forget where you came from and to treasure relationships in life. She was lovingly called “Grammy” by all. Our Mom was such a loving, kind, compassionate, empathetic and beautiful person. She put everyone before herself. Sho loved her children very much and was so proud of them.

Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband Henry Sady, with whom she remained good friends, lovingly helping her children to care for their Dad when he got sick. She was also predeceased by her husband of 30 years Robert Rich whom she loved and missed so much, her granddaughter Nicole who was always in her heart and her parents Edgar Hunt and Catherine Hurlbrink.

Dorothy leaves her children David and Gracie Sady; Donald and Beth Sady and Dana and Gilberto Nogueira. She also leaves her amazing grandchildren Desi, Tanoury and Nicholas; her beloved great-grandchildren with whom she spent many summer vacations making wonderful memories..Brad, Lexi, Josh, Ally, Milana and Leila.

She leaves her favorite brother Fred Hunt who was always her saving grace and her smart, talented sister-in-law Rosa and their children who she loved so much. She also leaves her loving sister Frannie and her brother-in-law Bob and their children; her sister June and her son.

She also leaves the entire Nogueira and Ferrabelo families. She loved being part of such a loving and huge family. She also leaves all of Nicholas’ friends who always made time to visit “Grammy”. She leaves her children’s friends who loved her so much and Mickey Teles who was like a son to her. In addition, she leaves her devoted companion, her dog Mookie and his friends who had many “sleepovers”; the adorable, lovable charismatic Bo-Bo Bernardo; the intelligent, lovable Boston (Bruin) Fialho; Mookie’s adorable brother Kylo Vital.

Our Mom did not want any services. She wants a huge party to celebrate her life, with Manny and Joe Nogueira cooking. We will have a celebration of Mom’s life later this summer.

A special thanks to her visiting nurses Amy and Lucy, to Kate her PT for always showing Mom respect, compassion and so much love. She truly enjoyed her time with all of you. Thanks also to Vicky, Andrea, Janelle and Mickey from WestMass Eldercare and to Dr. Mercadante and his staff for always answering our calls. Our Mom truly enjoyed going to your office where she was shown so much love by all; her favorite Dr. Puncho Gurung who made sure she was taken care of with respect and compassion and who always took time to talk to her. We are forever grateful to you and your staff,

Mom, losing you is the hardest thing we have ever gone through. We miss you so much and thank you for being such an amazing person and for being the best Grammy.

With much love,
David, the precious first born
Donny, your favorite
Dana, your princess
Betty, your baby from New York
Gracie, your smart daughter-in-law
Gilberto, your favorite son-in-law
