Constanty L. (Connie) Raccis, 93, of East Longmeadow, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2015. Born December 19, 1921 in Greenfield, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Blanche (Zagrupska) Raccis. A member of the Greatest Generation, Constanty proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was assigned to the 19th Naval Construction Battalion and the 1st Marine Division, serving in the South Pacific for 3 years.
Constanty moved to Brooklyn in his early teens and eventually to South Plainfield, NJ. He worked 39 years for Mobil Oil Corp, Edison, NJ and retired as Maintenance Superintendent. He married Anne Janule on August 1, 1942 and together they shared 72 years. Constanty lived in South Plainfield for 43 years, before moving to Vero Beach, FL. He was a member of the Holy Cross Church, Vero Beach, FL and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 12141. He was active in VFW Post 6763, South Plainfield, NJ where he was past commander. He was a past member of Sacred Heart Parish, South Plainfield, NJ and past president of the Holy Name Society, along with being a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
Constanty moved to East Longmeadow, MA in 2008 and was a devoted parishioner of St. Cecilias Church in Wilbraham where he was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 10195. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight of the Fairview Assembly 2670.
He was an active member of the Polish Homes in South Plainfield, NJ and Vero Beach, FL. He loved to polka dance, golf, travel and boating.
He is survived by two sons Thomas Raccis and his wife Gail of Sarasota, FL and David Raccis and his wife Michelle of Wilbraham, MA; two daughters Patricia Maingot of Vero Beach, FL and Yvonne Wright of Warrenton, OR and his sister Adele Bura of Long Island, NY. He also leaves his eight beloved grandchildren; Christine Cammelieri of Appleton, ME; Carolyn Day of Mamaroneck, NY; Kathleen Edwards of Chicago, IL; John Fee of Chicago, IL; Thomas Raccis Jr. of Sarasota, FL; Michelle Dolan of Riverview, FL; Lanelle Raccis and David Raccis of Wilbraham, MA along with seven great-grandchildren. Sadly, Constanty was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne on October 22, 2014
Funeral Services Celebrating Constantys life will be Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon St. Cecilias Church, Main St, Wilbraham, MA. Rites of Committal with Military Honors will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA.
