Carmelina M. (D’Amato) Smolinski, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2019. Born on April 15, 1924 in Thompsonville, CT, she was the daughter of the late Fredinando and Clementine (Imperato) D’Amato. Like many women of her generation she went to work at the former Springfield Armory during World War II. A longtime Ludlow resident, she was a devout communicant of Christ the King Church, helping with pierogi making for the parish’s annual picnic.
Carmelina is survived by her two sons John J. Smolinski Jr. and David F. Smolinski and his wife Colleen, both of Ludlow; a sister Rose Blickarze and a sister-in-law Geraldine D’Amato both of Suffield, CT. She also leaves her 5 beloved grandchildren Shauna (John), Keith (Elizabeth), Derek (Melissa), Lori (Michael) and Megan (Lucas); 5 great-grandchildren Elijah, Ezra, John Jr., Owen and Olivia, as well as many nieces and nephews. Sadly she was predeceased by her husband John Smolinski in 1997, her daughter-in-law Sylvia Smolinski in 2016 and 9 siblings.
Visiting hours for Carmelina will be Friday, April 12, 2019 from 9:00-10:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Christ the King Church, Warsaw Avenue, Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal will follow in Island Pond Cemetery, Center St., Ludlow, MA. Donations in Carmelina’s memory may be made to Christ the King Church, 41 Warsaw Ave., Ludlow, MA 01056.
