Aurelia L. (Cucchi) Batista, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Daughter of the late Adriano and Adimera (Ciaschini) Cucchi, she was born in Springfield on February 26, 1931. A graduate of the former Springfield Technical High School, Lil worked as a supervisor at Mass Mutual Insurance for many years and later as a waitress at several area restaurants. She was communicant of St Elizabeth’s Parish in Ludlow. Along with her late husband Nundy, she was a founding member and board member of the Lusitano Alumni and Fans and a member of the Ludlow Senior Center. Lil was also an accomplished candlepin bowler, avid shopper and loved all of the dogs who shared her life over the years.
Lil is survived by her son Kenneth Batista and his wife Kim of Ludlow and her daughter Tina DeLullo and her husband Ralph of Hampden. She also leaves her sister-in-law Claire Cucchi and her nieces Julie and Patty. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Fernando “Nundy” Batista in 2017 and her siblings Eva Collina, Mary Turney and Ercole Cucchi.
Lil’s family would like to thank her longtime friend and caregiver Diane Busiere as well as the staff at the Arbors Westfield for their care and compassion.
Funeral services for Lil will be Friday, January 17, 2025 at 9:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth’s Parish. Burial will be in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Donations in Lil’s memory may be made to The Arbors at Westfield, Reflections Unit, 40 Court St, Westfield, MA 01085.
