Arthur E. Chapman
1935 – 2005
LUDLOW – Arthur E. “Buddy” Chapman 70 of Blue Grass Lane died Sunday April 17, 2005 at home. Born in Chicopee, MA January 22, 1935 he had lived in Ludlow for many years. Art proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy with service from 1952-1956. He later worked at the Springfield Newspapers, and was appointed to the Ludlow Police Department as a full time police officer in 1969. He served as a patrolman, safety officer, department photographer, and as a member of the detective bureau. He worked for 22 years without taking a sick day. He and the police department received countless letters from residents and civic groups commending him for his work as safety officer. He retired in 1991. He received his criminal justice education at Westfield State College.Art was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association,was a member of the Town of Ludlow Safety Committee, a member of Ludlow Country Club, the Portuguese American Citizen’s Club, and the Ludlow Unity Club. Art was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He is survived by his wife Yvonne R. (Mendes) Chapman. His children, Danny Chapman of Ludlow, MA Linda Collette and her husband Kevin of Ludlow, Kelley Tessicini and her husband Bill of Agawam Cherished grandfather of Katelyn and Ryan Collette, and Sarah and Anthony Tessicini. Brother of Marian Gagne of Easthampton, MA. Art is also survived by many extended family members and friends. Family and friends are invited to St. Mary of the Assumption Church East St. Ludlow Wednesday at 10 AM for his Liturgy of Christian Burial. Rites of committal will follow in Island Pond Cemetery.
