Walter M. Bowles died Sunday January 19, 2014 of complications from pneumonia. Born in Guilford, NH the only child of Carl and Mable (Carter) Bowles. After completing high school in Laconia, NH with his aunt Margaret and uncle Scott Holmes, he resumed farming with his father. He also did road construction, before joining the United States Air Force in 1940. While stationed at Westover, He met the love of his life, Charlotte White. They Married On September 19, 1942. They moved to Rome, NY where he was stationed at Rome Army Air Field. While there the met some life long friends. He was sent overseas, to Japan and Korea in charge of the Motor Pool . Upon his discharge he returned to Ludlow, and began a career at Ludlow Savings Bank. He took courses at Brown University to further his career; eventually becoming Assistant Vice President. He retired after 36 years. He enjoyed gardening, bee keeping and water dousing. He leaves his wife of 71 years Charlotte, His daughters Peggy Bowles. Linda Thibault, and his closest Adopted daughter, Barbara (Carter) Dunbar, Earl Dunbar Jr., 2 grandchildren Wendy Landry and Kevin Dunbar 2 great grandchildren Jacob Landy and Matthew Dunbar, all of Ludlow. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins from New Hampshire. Funeral services celebrating his life will be Thursday January 23, 2014 at 11 AM at the First Church in Ludlow 859 Center St. Ludlow Rites of committal with Military Honors will follow in Center Cemetery.
