Obituary

Sylvia (Halgas) Smolinski, 65, of Ludlow, passed away comfortably surrounded by her loving family after a valiant fight against cancer at the Fisher Home in Amherst on March 10, 2016. Born in Ludlow, MA August 6, 1950, Sylvia was the daughter of Helen (Rachmaciej) Halgas and the late Chester Halgas. A lifelong Ludlow resident, she was devout communicant of Christ the King Church.

Sylvia was a homemaker and part-time hairdresser for many years. She retired at age 65 and took pride in being hard-working and frugal throughout her life.

In addition to her mother, Sylvia is survived by her husband John Smolinski Jr. of Ludlow, her loving children and their spouses; Shauna Dion and her husband John; Derek Smolinski and his wife Melissa and Megan Rosa and her husband Lucas Rosa Jr. Sylvia is also the cherished grandmother of three beautiful grandchildren; John Dion Jr., Owen Smolinski, and Olivia Rosa. Sylvia also leaves her sister Carol Romaniak and her husband William of Ludlow and several nieces and nephews. Sadly she was predeceased by her brother Chester Halgas Jr.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrating Sylvias life on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Christ the King Church, Warsaw Avenue, Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal will follow in Island Pond Cemetery, Center St, Ludlow, MA.

Sylvia will be missed she was a great person. She will be watching over her family. She is at peace. With her dad and brother and they will take care of each other. She was a great cousin to me especially when we were young. I will miss here RIP SYLVIA
