Obituary

Sidney Etkin most recently of Chicopee passed away Friday July 14, 2006 in Wilbraham after a long illness. Sidney was born in Springfield in 1933 to the late Harry and Lena (Greenberg) Etkin. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, he attained the rank of Corporal. Sidney retired from the United States Post Office where he was a Technician for 33 years. He leaves his son Robert and wife Maria of Hatfield and his son Stephen and wife Anna of Ludlow. He also leaves one grandson, Benjamin of Hatfield. Sid is survived by his brothers; Abraham of Springfield, and Lloyd of Enfield, Connecticut, and his sisters Ida Ghazil of Springfield and Rose Lamoureux of Agawam. He was predeceased by two brothers Jacob and Henry. Sid was very generous with his time and enjoyed most being Santa Claus every Christmas for area children’s functions. Among his many affiliations, Sid was a Charter Gold Badge Member of the Western Massachusetts Police Chiefs Association, a Deputy Sheriff with the Hampden County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, a Shriner with the Melha Temple of Springfield and a 32nd and 3rd Degree Master Mason, Scottish Rite of Springfield. After cremation a memorial service will be held Thursday from 4pm to 7pm at Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall Street, Ludlow. Rites of committal with Military Honors will take place at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at a later date.

After cremation a memorial service will be held Thursday from 4pm to 7pm at Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall Street, Ludlow. Rites of committal with Military Honors will take place at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at a later date.

Sid was a cousin of mine and I used to see him frequently at the JCC.He was alway doing favors for others and will be sorely missed by those who knew him.
