Obituary

Mark E. Abert, 64, of Chicopee, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Holyoke, MA on February 4, 1952, he was the son of the late Ernest and Claire (Couture) Abert. Mark was a proud graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School in 1970. He went on to earn his B.S. from Westfield State College in 1974.

Mark taught Science and Chemistry at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Holyoke Catholic and Chicopee High Schools. Mark was an active and devout communicant of St. Elizabeths Parish in Ludlow, MA. He cared deeply about the positive development of young people and was one of the longest serving Boy Scout leaders of Troop 180 in Ludlow, MA.

Mark is survived by his wife of 39 years Pauline (Myers) Abert , two sons Matthew E. Abert (Wendy) and Brian M. Abert (Jessica) and his daughter Michelle C. Abert all of Chicopee, MA. He also leaves his brother Carl Abert and his sister Anne Abert both of Chicopee, MA. Mark is also survived by his beloved grandsons Connor and Andrew and his godson Scott.

Service Information

Funeral services celebrating Marks life will be Monday, June 27, 2016 at 8:45 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Parish, Hubbard St. Ludlow, MA. Burial will follow in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Chicopee, MA.

I had Mr. Albert as my chemistry teacher at HCHS. He was also the advisor for the As Schools Match Wits team. I remember his class with great fondness. He was truly a special teacher and a special person. My deepest sympathy for your loss.

Mr. Abert will always be in my heart. His soul was golden and his smile would light up the entire room. I will never forget the good times we had as a chemistry class. He cared so much about everyone and he inspires me to be a better person.

Mr. Abert was one of my favorite teachers at HCHS 20+ years ago, and I can still recall all the enthusiasm with which he delivered his lessons. What little I know about chemistry today is all a product of his class. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My sincere condolences to all of Mr Abert's family. He was an excellent teacher and molder of young minds. He taught me for 3 years at Mt. Carmel. He will be missed but his memory will live on for many years in the hearts of the many children whose lives he affected.

Truly one of the best teachers I ever had. Mr Abert was funny and witty. He loved helping his students. Even in college I remember the techniques he used to help us learn chemistry. You will be missed very much.
