Obituary

Loron J. Chappel Sr., 72, of Wilbraham, MA passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 10, 2016. He was born in Palmer, MA on April 25, 1943, son of the late Charles and Elsie (Harmon) Chappel and brother of the late Charles Chappel. He graduated from Springfield Trade School in 1962.

Loron spent over 40 years as a machinist in various machine shops in the area and owned and operated Heath-Chip Tool and Mold for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains and instilled this love of nature in all his children. When hiking on Sundays, if he came upon an old dump site, he would light up as if he had just discovered King Tuts tomb. All of that because of old glass bottles that had withstood the test of time, glass that had not been broken. His love of collecting began as a child with stamps and coins and continued throughout his life. He loved listening to the tunes of Bo Diddly, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly and especially his son Mike. He was a tried and true Patriots and Red Sox fan, but like most Sox fans, if you talked to him about baseball, he would just tell you how bad they suck this year. Playing cards with his friends on Friday nights always brought out his competitive spirit. Lorons most prized possession was his family. His greatest joy in life was the time he spent with this cherished family.

He was the devoted husband of 41 years to Ruth (Gacek) Chappel. He was the beloved father of Michael Chappel and his wife Lisa of Harwich, MA; Marsha Chappel and her wife Maureen of South Hadley, MA; Loron James Chappel Jr. and his wife Heather of Ludlow, MA; Heather Chappel and her fiance Michael of Wilbraham, MA; and Jonathan Chappel and his wife Alicia of West Springfield, MA. In addition he was the proud Grandpa to Kayleigh, Ethan, Jacob, Aubrielle, Jackson and Lincoln. His faithful companions Bo and Andy will be lost without him. He will remain a timeless soul, always remembered, deeply missed and forever in the hearts of his loved ones
